Reference One is a turntable, a valve amplifier and a pair of loudspeakers, made in one workshop by forty people who listen for a living.

01 · The groove

A canyonthinner than a hair.

The music is cut into the wall of a groove forty microns wide. A diamond smaller than a grain of salt rides it at two grams, feeling every turn of the cutting stylus that made it.

02 · The amplifier

Warmth isnot an effect.

Two 300B triodes per channel, hand-matched, with no feedback anywhere in the circuit. Eight watts of the cleanest power we know how to make, and the filament glow to prove it.

03 · The loudspeaker

Paper,berylliumand silence.

A woven paper cone for the voice, a beryllium dome twenty-five microns thin for the air above it, and forty-two kilograms of birch ply to keep everything else still.

Every Lydhus begins as a drawing at full scale, in pencil. This is the one for the M1 loudspeaker, and what it measures in an anechoic room.

Three woods,one voice.

Oiled walnut, smoked oak or ebonised ash, veneered from a single log for each pair so the grain runs on from one speaker to the other.
